I hope to see you there! :-)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02860796855047175092noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8420165985205495632.post-81996198696992785232013-02-23T05:18:00.002-08:002013-02-23T05:18:51.737-08:00Finally another update on Snowdrop! So, I've done quite a bit on Elliott's Snowdrop Fairy during the past couple of weeks. She finally has a face (though no eyes yet, which does make her look kinda spooky). I've yet to do the backstitching and beading in her necklace and headdress.

In this month's issue of Cross Stitch Collection magazine there was a nice preview of Elliott's next historical lady: This time around we'll some Victorian fashion. I absolutely love this design (much more than the Medieval Lady, actually), and I definitely intend to start stitching her once I recieve April's issue of Cross Stitch Collection!
This does mean, however, that all of my stitchy goals are going out the window, since I simply do not have the time to work on both the Elliott designs and the Heaven & Earth Designs at the same time. Oh well - anything for the Victorian Era, I guess :-)
So I got quite a bit done this weekend :-)

My fingers have been itching for yet another start though. Cross Stitch Collection Magazine just came out with Elliott's latest design and start of a new series: The Medieval Ladies.

I think she's gorgeous, and I hope I'll get started some time in the future - for now there'll be no new starts however. I need to finish at least one of my projects first.

Happy Stitchings

I finally received my hand-dyed fabric and beads so I could start Joan Elliott's Snowdrop Fairy, which was featured in December's issue of the Cross Stitch Collection magazine.

I've chosen to stitch it on the aida fabric called Aphrodite from polstitches.co.uk. I am a bit surprised it turned out to be so dark, as it did not seem to be as dark in the finished photographs I've seen of this design. Nevertheless, it'll only let the white beads stand out even more.

(I apologize for wrinkly fabric).

And here's a picture of Snowdrop Fairy all finished and framed. As you can see, it'll take some time for me to finish. This is also my first time working with Kreinik thread and beads, so I am interested to see how this one turns out.
Well, it's not because I haven't been stitching. I've done quite a bit over the last few weeks actually. So here's an update (I apologize for the wrinkly fabric, I simply did not have the time to iron the fabric this morning):

Beloved Child:
It's finally finished!! I'm going to get it framed over the next week or so. It is so good to see the final result - and so good to return to my other projects. It took just about two months to finish for me (not counting the one month I spent in World of Warcraft):
I have to have the project done and framed by the 15th of december, and I think that should be doable :-)

However, this week is extremely busy due to the fact that I have to correct something around 90 essays, 30 tests and give grades to 100 students - that will be so much fun! Or something.
so I didn't exactly stick to my plan about stitching every week and making a weekly post. I've had an extremely busy month work-wise AND an expansion for World of Warcraft came out, so my time was spend on anything but stitching!
I picked up "Beloved Child" again last week, when I realized my friend is giving birth in no more than three months! So I better hurry.
I have to admit, I am getting just a tiny bit fed up with this picture now and its colours. Expeciallysince I bought a bunch of new Rachel Anderson charts my fingers have been itching to get started with one of those instead. They're so beautiful and colourful.

But I made a promise to myself: No more new starts before Beloved Child is finished. I need to get this picture done for my friend. She's over halfway in her pregnancy, so I need to finish soon.

Here is my progress over the last week (and weekend):
I am almost done with the mother's hand, so I'm getting closer. I still have to stitch the mother's face and the fading in the background.

Until next week! :-)
For those of you who do not know; Heaven & Earth Designs make some of the most beautiful cross stich designs known to man (well, at I think so), and they're currently having financial issues. Apparently not enough people buy cross-stich charts. So if there's a chart you've had on your wishlist for some time, pop over there and buy it! :-)

As some of you might know, I was not much of a "stash'er". All of the charts I own are the ones I actually stitch, so I've never had any charts waiting to be started. Well, that has changed now! I think I might have enough charts for a lifetime now - lol!

And I can't really decide whether I buy all of these charts for charitable reasons ("HAED might be closing, I better help out") or for purely selfish reasons ("HAED might be closing, and I still need all of these charts!"). Nevertheless, I bought even more charts today, and as you can probably tell from the selection I am a huge fan of Rachel Anderson's work.
Since it is Heaven & Earth Appreciation Week I have also bought new charts. I bought these charts in advance of the appreciation week though. I intend to buy more charts by Rachel Anderson and Marta Dahlig this week.

I have made a new "Stash" tab at the top of my blog, which will be updated whenever I buy new charts.

Here are the new additions:
QS Sapphire is by far my favorite. I love those blue and purple colours!

Since I've bought all of these new charts, I had to come up with rules to prevent myself from starting all of them at once. I will not be allowed to make a new start before I've finished "Beloved Child" (it needs to be finished in four months anyway - that's when my friend will give birth to her son!).
I'm not sure how much I will stitch over the next weekend though ;-) Since I also play The Sims 3 and a new expansion for the game is coming out this Thursday.

I would also like to encourage my fellow stitchers to stash up some more. I am usually not one for stashing, since I don't like having tons of charts laying around and not work on them. I like buying the charts and start kitting up for them right away. However, with Heaven & Earth Designs in trouble financially, I figured that has to change.

I've therefore bought five new charts from Heaven & Earth Designs, artwork by Rachel Anderson - because she is one of my favourites. When I have received the charts I will make a new tab on my blog called "Stash", for all to see the ones I've bought.

Happy stitching!
So I've been a bit busy over the last week - starting work again and meeting all the new students I'm going to teach this year.
I did manage, however, to put a few stitches in the Baby Picture. Here are the before and after shots:
I'm really excited that you can see the face now. Now I just need to decide whether to work on the mother's face (top left area) or her hand (bottom right area).
Guess what I found in the mail last week! The cross-stitch kit I've been waiting for the last couple of weeks. As I wrote in my last post, I am stitching this for a friend of mine, who's expecting her first child (a baby boy!). The final piece will look like this:

You probably can't really tell what's what yet, but I can tell you, that I am working on the center of the piece, which is the baby's head. Hopefully the baby will have eyes soon, and not look as creepy as I think he does at the moment ;-)
I don't have much to update... The last couple of weeks I've been gaming with the hubby - "The Secret World" is a really great game and quite addictive as well. I promise to try and update some more in the future.

So my summerholidays are finally over (sadly) and I started working today. I did not get as much stitching done as I would have liked over the summer, but at least I got some quality time gaming with the hubby :-)

I've been working on Envy since last update (yes, I'm STILL on the same page, and it's driving me mad to be honest - so much black and dark green).

Envy as of August 13

I've also been rather bad... ;) I'd sworn I would not buy another chart and start another cross-stitch project. But when some of our very good friends told they were pregnant I could not resist :-) They've been struggling with becoming pregnant for some time now, and now they are expecting a healthy baby boy! I am so happy for them, especially because they are among the kindest of people I know, and I know they will be great parents!

On a more personal note, I guess I've also been able to relate to them a lot, since the hubby and I have experienced some of the same problems. So when something like this happens it really gets my hopes up!

I have therefore ordered a cross-stitch kit (from a Scandinavian page called Ateljé Margaretha) and I intend to stitch it for them as a surprise. I cannot decide when to give it to them though ;-) I hope it'll be in the mail soon, as I would really like to work on this for the upcoming IHSW.

I spend my IHSW on Envy (of course). In fact, I pretty much only stitched during Saturday. Friday was spent celebrating my four-year wedding anniversary with the hubby. Sunday I spent doing absolutely nothing! I could not pull myself together and pick up the needle. Truth be told, I am growing tired of all the green in Envy, and I am looking forward to work on my other projects as well, but I am determined to finish this page on Envy before returning to my rotation again.

And since I love before-and-after shots myself, I made these for you guys :-)

I could have done more, since I'm still on holiday. But as I wrote; I could not pull myself together. I do like, however, that I have started stitching her dress, so that was a bit of a kick for me.

While playing around with my camera, my dog, Ronja, became very curious:

I think I might take a small break from stitching during this week. Hopefully my stitchy bug for Envy will return very soon!
I am looking forward to see everyone's updates on this weekend's progress!

Happy stitching!
We only just got home last week. It was great; we got to see some old castles (mainly castles from the Tudor period that I love) and we also saw some of our English friends.

After the trip I started working on Envy again - it takes me forever to finish just one page!
I actually think I've begun stitching her dress, but because all the colours are green, it is difficult to see where the grass ends or begins :-)

I'd also like to encourage everyone to join IHSW this month. Even if you only intend to put in a few stitches. Join here on Joysze's blog: http://joysze.blogspot.dk/

If you don't know what IHSW is, you can read up on it here: http://joysze.blogspot.dk/p/international-hermit-and-stitch-weekend.html

I haven't had time to do as much stitching as I would like (but when do I ever?) As I have written in earlier posts I've been busy baking for a party at the school where I work, for everyone who passed this year's teacher's training (and I was among them - yay).

Enough excuses though - here is my current progress on Envy:

I've only filled in three colours, but I should hit the bottom of her dress very soon :-)

I've also taken pictures of all the cakes I were to bake for the party:

With that I'll wish you all a Happy Stitchy Summer :-)
It feels soooo much better with a bit larger stitches and it turns out much nicer in my opinion.

Here's a picture of the entire piece from Heaven and Earth Designs:

And here's a picture of my progress:

Envy, bottom left, the 24th of June

I am now working on the page right above this one. I am looking very much forward to stitching her dress - I just love the colours! I intend to finish one more page before returning to my rotation system again :-)

I am not sure how much time I'll have for stitching during the upcoming week. The hubby and I are to bake and decorate cakes for approximately 100 people. The school where I teach is throwing a small party for everyone who finished their teacher's training this year, so we'll spend a lot of time baking and making fondant flowers ;-)
I had exams Monday and Tuesday (or rather, my students had exams). I did not get much done during the weekend, I had to prepare for the exams and visit my parents-in-law. However, I did work a bit on Envy (new start). Here's a picture of my progress so far:

Envy, starting bottom left page (as usual) :-)

And here is something else I worked on last weekend. Because I'm done with my education the school where I'm working is throwing a small party for the lot of us who finished this year. I agreed to make cakes for the reception and figured I'd better practice beforehand. So this is a small version of what is going to be a rather large cake:

Inside it was all chocolate-cake with chocolate filling

My summer-holiday is starting now, so it's back to stitching (and Diablo 3 and the Sims at some point).
You can begin to see the bottom of her arm now. I am looking forward to see how that develops.

I have yet to receive the fabric I need to restart Envy by Marta Dahlig. I very much hope to get it during this week. I think I will stitch just about 1 page on her, before returning to my rotation and incorporate her (Envy) in it.
Until then, I'll stitch another 10 hours on the Mini Citrine.

Happy stitching all!
I intend to switch between the Female Draenei and the Mini Citrine and stitch 10 hours on each of them. My rotation will in all likeliness change during IHSW, where my focus piece will be the Mini Citrine (I think).

Here's some pictures of the Draenei after 10 hours of stitching (and yes, I actually time how much time I spend stitching each time - that's just how much of a control-freak I am) :-)
I am not a fast stitcher, so I am quite pleased with the outcome :) I also enjoy the colours very much on this piece.

As always I give full credit to Sara Forlenza at http://www.saraforlenza.com/index.php for making this beautiful picture of the Draenei, that I am now able to stitch.

On a side note, I think I have made up my mind about the HAED piece "Envy" by Marta Dahlig. Both my mother and husband agree - along with mdgtjulie from Julie's and Yes Dear's Ravings (thank you for your comment!) - that I should do the full Envy piece and not a mini. I already started the full piece last year, but the stitches were way too small for my eyes. I will therefor restart the full Envy chart just with slidely bigger stitches. She'll be huge in the end, and she'll probably take forever to stitch, but I'm up for the challenge! ;-)

I will move on to the Mini Citrine for now. See you after 10 hours of stitching!
